Houma Man Arrrested for Stealing Motorized Scooter and Driving it Intoxicated on Interstate
Thomas J. Phillips of Houma, La. is accused of driving a stolen shopping scooter on a highway while intoxicated. According to Houma police, the breathalyzer test administrated on Phillips, found him intoxicated at twice the level of legality.
Police investigated the incident when they received a call from the store, that a motorized scooter was stolen. They found Phillips driving the scooter on South Van Avenue towing a friend behind him in a wheelchair. Phillips was quoted as saying that he decided to take the scooter from the Wal-Mart to “go on a joyride”.
Phillips was booked with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and with theft. The occupant of the wheelchair being towed behind Phillips was not cited. Phillips is currently in the Terrebonne Parish jail on a $10,000 bond.
