A Visitor’s Guide to Texas’ Kemah Boardwalk — Everything You Need to Know [PHOTOS]
Are you tired of sitting at home with no real vacations planned? Well I know of an awesome place to go for a weekend or just a day getaway!
The Kemah Boardwalk in Texas is an awesome place to spend your time this summer! It has things for everyone, from kids to adults you can find something to do. I know I love it when my family and I go just for a few hours because it is always a blast.
Getting to Kemah, TX is not that long of a drive. I mapquested the drive and it takes about 2 hours and 20 minutes! Which is much easier then getting to Houston and you don’t have to fight the traffic!
Once you’ve made the drive to Kemah and reach the boardwalk you will see the various yachts and sailing boats in the marina. The boardwalk is open everyday and always has something planned for every one. Entering the boardwalk is always a sight to see, the bright colors and sounds make the place feel almost homey. If you are in the mood to shop I have a list of stores for you!
The shopping at the Kemah boardwalk is never a disappointment. There is something for everyone, and I mean that!
- Christmas at Kemah is a shop dedicated to any and everything Christmas! From decorations, to cards, and tree ornaments. They also carry everyday decor for the home. This is my mom’s favorite store since we go full out for Christmas.
- Surf’s Up is the place for your beach needs. It has all the main brands that surfers love and need. Perfect store for a beach and summer lover.
- The Haunted Heel is the place for anyone looking for pin-up style clothes, heels, and accessories for their wardrobe. They even have old time bowling shirts for the man you love. Gina over at 107jamz.com has shopped there and just raves about it!
- Boardwalk Fun Shirts is where you can get some boardwalk gear for you or your family. Also The Treasure Chest Gift Shop that is located inside the Aquarium Restaurant carries various items related to the aquatic life in the aquarium and outside (such as the sting ray exhibit), they also carry various games and toys for younger children.
There are even more shops on the boardwalk, such as food stores and candy shops!
When it comes to boardwalk games, rides, and fun this place has so much! They have rides for kids AND adults of all ages, and that makes me happy because I love the rides! From carousels to the only roller coaster on Texas’s Gulf Coast, The Boardwalk Bullet, which is an all wood roller coaster. Go to Kemah Boardwalk to see a list of all the rides they offer! They also have vendor games where you can win various prizes, an arcade, a playground and a dancing water fountain that kids and adults can enjoy on a hot summer day!
One of my absolute favorite things to do is inside the Stingray Reef & Rainforest Exhibit. You can feed and touch live stingrays and it only costs $4.25 or $5.99 for a value pass that includes food! How often can you say you’ve fed and touched stingrays?! They also have various animals in their rainforest from piranhas to turtles you can see after hanging with the stingrays.
I also recommend taking a tour on the Boardwalk Beast! Take an awesome 25 minute ride on this giant speedboat in Galveston bay, the wave jumping will promise you a good time and a good soaking too! Definitely a fun thing to do with the whole family!
After a day filled with adventure, fun, and shopping you are probably going to want to fill yourself up with some great food. The boardwalk has such a variety of restaurants it’ll be hard just to choose one! And if you’re just looking for a little snack they also have a Starbucks, ice cream shop, and the Bayside Grille which offers a breakfast menu, even beignets! Plus a lunch menu filled with soups, salads, and sandwiches.
Throughout the year they offer events that change every month that are sure to not disappoint. From a romantic “stroll and sip” wine tasting to seeing the Nutcracker performed on the boardwalk! When I say this is a place that has something for everyone I was not joking! So give Kemah Boardwalk a try and let me know what you think! And if you’ve been there before tell me some of your favorite things to do, I would love to hear from all of you!
